Today we hauled the 35' constrictor of a chimney liner to the peak of the roof and pulled it down to the living room hearth. Since the chimney banks a few times as it rises it made pulling the liner down fun..... I got to heave the giant stainless steel snake overhead while dad pulled it down with a rope from the living room. Thewhole process was quite a bit smoother than we had anticipated.
We hooked the stove up to the flex liner with a cleanout tee so that when I play chimney sweep every season the soot is captured at the bottom in a neat little can.
All that is left is to paint the stovepipe fittings flat black and wash the new brick hearth with acid to clean things up a bit. The hearth fits in well being made of recycled bricks, and one can hardly tell that we had modified the floor.
Now we just need to buy some wood!

ReplyDeleteHey! Found you while searching for infrared paint remover. Your work looks pretty good... you guys are much more industrious than a couple of middle-aged lazy people. (that would be us).
ReplyDeleteWe just started on the kitchen in our 1959 ranch and I'm tired all ready. Plus I go back to work tomorrow. :(
Looking forward to seeing some more progress.
Peace!
